I'm a HUGE fan of Amy's work! She's not only highly prolific and versatile, having mastered a wide variety of styles and media, but she also has an incredible talent for perfectly capturing the essence of a character, through body-language/pose and especially through facial-expression (no doubt the result of her experience in animation.) I'm sure that in years to come, as her work becomes more widely-known, she'll receive recognition for the enormous talent she is.

Wow I hadn't even heard about this before! I especially love the narration bonus points if theyre the voices of the actual couple. The narration felt so easy and really relaxed this animation for me.

Yeah Cartoon Brew readers are always negative against these kinds of competitions. I can see their point but at the same time, it's a bit of fun. I would buy that burger shirt in a heartbeat.

While I totally agree with you on the RW/RO-culture problem you defined above I still think that no one would have given a damn if this mix-up of RO/RW would not been about lesbianism.

No one would have cared – or even noticed – if they had suggested something to be true that isn't officially part of the Adventure time cosmos but made up by fans if it wasn't something sexual. Damn, I can't come up with an example, sorry.

Indeed, it often happens that many mascots have nothing to do with the nature of the brand they represent. For instance, what's the link between the crocodile and the fashion brand it represents -- Lacoste? Have a look at my article on the subject of brand mascots. I'll be happy to hear your thoughts. http://www.schmoozyfox.com/2012/01/27/brand-mascots-shiny-happy-creatures/

Ah, you see that's the thing, the Toyota Production System focuses only on HOW animation is made, not the content itself. THAT aspect will continue to develop as long as creativity exists. :)

PS. That's a good article from a great magazine.

It sounds like a good generally applicable system but with one glaring hole. You've heard my thoughts on this but not applied to this particular subject. What happens when there are no notable improvements to be made that elevate one work above the one before? I'm not sure that it's a feasible longterm strategy in an industry that relies on aesthetics. Ultimately, your storytelling and the looks of the film can only improve for so long until you've reached a point where the audience is content with whatever you make to the point that nothing seems like an improvement over what came last. That or the continuous improvement fails on the large market to the point where the people who can relate to more sophisticated work shrinks. It's a carrot stick that nobody wants to reach.

Here's an article about Pixar's inspiration from Toyota's production system. So we know of one company that's already applied it.

THere's some ways to explore the situations where no improvements can be made, but I don't want to meander too much.
